Symptoms/Falling w/ worry

Postby sickofit on Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:54 pm

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help. Going to a doctor tomorrow morning. Have put it off for a year now.
What test should I ask for based on my symptoms. Does any of my symptoms sound like something terribly wrong
Now I know I should have the dr decide but this is different. Why, because I can't find a decent doctor, no one is accepting patients. This doctor rushes in & out & says come back if its worse.
I really feel like I have cancer. I dont want to put that vibe out there but thats honestly whats crossing my mind

1)Extreme fatigue. I do not do anything. Sit in office, go home. Everything is behind.
Friday fell asleep a 8pm. Woke up saturday at 3pm. Slept on & off all Sat night
2)Face/Head pressure. Puffy under eyes. Do not beleive its sinus as no stuffiness or mucous. Actually opposite...very dry
3)Neck paid -feels swollen tight muscles. Back of neck & pain
4)Throat - feels deep downalmost to collar bone area of raw pain like
5)General bone/muscle pain all over
6)New Symptom: my left shoulder bone on the very top hurts. When I press down on it, a lot of pain. No history of excersice or lifting etc.
7)Irregular periods
8)Chronic yeast infection symptoms
9)Ear: left ear feels pluged all the time. Occasion popping/pressure release sounds in both ears
10)Constant (been going on for along time) pain in centre of chest. When the two ribs meet int he middle

Also, I am losing my mind today with worry. It seems to have piled up. I stupidly went on a lung cancer site. Also, I am wondering if maybe I have a infection caused by untreated yeast infection. Maybe it entered into blood stream. I don't know.
Honestly if I don't go in prepared I will be sent home with a general bloodwork rec & "come back if it gets anyworse"

Please give me advise of what I should do not to be rushed out of the office with noone even touching me & the usual general blood work.
What does it sound like I have? Bad stuff and all
What tests?

First, you don't need to ask for any tests, the doctor will order the appropriate tests.

A good history and complete physical will likely rule out 90% of your fears. A complete blood panel will
determine if there is anything else to worry about. Your age, physical findings, and other history will drive any additional tests.

For example:

Over 50 might need a colonoscopy
Heavy alcohol abuse might warrant an endoscopic view of your esophagus.
Visual inspection of your throat coupled with sleeping history might point to additional imaging studies of your upper GI.
If you smoke and you're over 40, might need a chest x-ray.
If a visual inspection of your nose and ears reveals anything odd you might get a referral to an ENT, Allergist, etc.
Any unusual masses, bumps, or nodes discovered in the physical might result in additional imaging studies.

It just goes on and on.

Trust your doctor. And don't take any demands in there with you.

I know you've been suffering from the fatigue issue for years, some discussion of your physical condition, weight, exercise routines, and general well being, may point to non-sinister explanations for the fatigue.

Heres how it went down.

"hi dr, I came to see you about 8months ago for tiredness and pressure in head and ears and neck. Its getting worse and not subsiding"

Dr. felt my lumps on sides of neck & says its just muscular. Did not check eyes or nose.

I told her " To be honest with you, I am nervous on a new symptom that has been added. I have extreme pain of top of left shoulder bone. No history of heavy lifting of excersice and I looked on the computer and it gave me a scare"

She didn't touch it but prescribed me an expensive ointment that is like advil in a cream after she asked me to raise my arm. (I was able to do so)

I also told her that I think because I know nothing about anatomy that I may be associating the word "tired" and "exhaustion" with pain. Because I noticed I have muscular tightness and pain throughout my body and when I feel it really bad, I go to sleep.
I mentioned I am a bit worried about my exhaustion because both my parents have severe heart issues.

Then she prescribed me nasonex and left to her next patient. No blood work. No nothing else.

Incidentally, when I went to her the 8mnths ago...What did I get? A prescription for nasonex....
AAHHHHHHHH

Good Advise....I have to not be negative and look at a positive advise. She did tell me that no matter how tired I feel to force 15minutes of excersice a day. That is good advise and I will try it

What was I looking for? Not a prescription or specaial treatment or anything. I think people take too much medication But I wanted to feel listened to, looked at & see have a discussion to problem solve & find some answers be they little or huge. Okay. Ivery little

If you have chest pain and shortness of breath you should seek professional help. If these are new symptoms it's especially important to have them evaluated.

I need advise please

I didnt'' go to work today.

Yesterday. I went to work in my office. Came straight home and had to go on the couch. Fell asleep until about 9pm. Woke up, watched tv & fell asleep until morning.
Felt unwell with head pressure and sore throat.
Fell back asleep until 12:30pm.

I am really worried. Isn't it something to be worried about when my head always has pressure, I have puffy pockets on my upper cheeks and I am tired all the time. My ears make clicking noises. The center of my chest hurts right where my ribs join. I am tired , so tired all the time. It seems when I clean house on day. The next day I am out. Or I clean house & then have no other energy for the day.
There isn't a day where I dont feel tired or unwell. I dont want a bandaid like nasonex (which doesnt work) but answers.
I can't take it anymore. I want to live and have energy and play with my kids and accomplish things.

What do my symptoms suggest?

I'm not an expert (only a teenager!) so don't take my word for it - but it sounds a little like chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia.
Some CFS people complain about pain a lot - and like the title suggests, feel tired all the time. If you had flu-like symptoms and swollen lymph nodes that might be an indication as well. Maybe ask your doctor about it? They might refer you to a neurologist to investigate.
I did a lot of investigating on CFS because it's one of my 'illnesses' that I am convinced I have.

But a good place to go if you want someone to listen to your concerns is a psychologist. It sounds like you might have insomnia and consequent exhaustion, which can be caused by anxiety (which you know you have!) Chest pain is also a symptom of anxiety.
It's a little bit hard, because symptoms of anxiety always appear sinister, and OF COURSE that's what we worry about! We exacerbate the symptoms because we're so anxious about them.

I don't know what the etiquette is for doctors, but maybe ask them if it sounds like chronic fatigue to them. Also, if your family has a history of heart issues, the doctor should at LEAST have a little bit of a listen with the stethoscope.
I don't know if you've seen one, but definitely go see a psychologist, they're always the BEST doctors to talk to, because they're paid to listen. Plus, I like to think that a psychologist will suggest you see a medical doctor if what you're talking about sounds sinister.
